Lancaster, PA (October 20-27)

We came back to the Circle M campground for a week before heading to NYC. Dana really enjoyed this campground for her indoor swimming pool daily exercise. Fun playing mini golf for bragging rights (no need to document how Jim crushed Dana). Jim used the local university's track since the area is quite hilly. We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary this week and had a great day together in a place called Kitchen Kettle Village in the city of Intercourse, Pennsylvania.  Halloween was big at the campground- they had RV site decoration contest, trick or treating, pumping carving and pumping slingshot contest.

New York City, NY and Jersey City, NJ (October 27 - November 5)

We stayed right across the Hudson River and Manhattan in Northern New Jersey. Below are some pictures of the harbor attached to our campground.

Jim ran to the Liberty State Park each morning past Ellis Island and Lady Liberty. We got used to taking the subway throughout NYC. The first day we went to both the Natural History Museum and the 9/11 Memorial (brought back a lot of feelings of sadness, anger and empathy).

The second day we went to the top of the Empire State Building and toured the Intrepid a retired aircraft carrier and the retired submarine Growler.

After a long day and a lot of walking, all we wanted to do was get to the subway station to get back to our RV. Hint, don't just Google map "Subway" to get to the underground or you'll make the same mistake we did.

Wednesday was a relaxing morning at the RV before heading over to Manhattan to see the Broadway Musical "Wicked". It was amazing to see and the set designs were incredible. After the show we walked through Times Square for people watching.

Thursday was off to the Marathon convention center for bib pick up and then over to Pier 83 for a cruise all around Manhattan.  Pretty neat to see everything from the water. Went under 4 bridges and the tour guide was very good giving a historical perspective of NYC.

Friday and Saturday were rest days. Unfortunately Jim came down with a cough, cold and slight fever prior to the marathon on Sunday. To complicate things he cracked a tooth that was causing pain. The tooth was removed the day after the marathon so as not to interfere with the race. Dana was kind enough to wake up at 5 am to drop Jim off at The Meadowlands (Met Life Stadium) in New Jersey so the busses could bring runners to the starting line. The bus dropped Jim off at Staten Island at 6 am for a 9 am race start. You really start to questions your life decisions waiting 3 hours for the race to start and sitting on a sidewalk in 38 degree weather.

The race route went through all 5 boroughs starting in Staten Island, crossing the bridge to Brooklyn, then up to Queens, over to the Bronx and finishing in Central Park in Manhattan. Runners crossed 5 bridges in total over the 26.2 mile run. Winds were gusting up to 15 mph at times. The crowds (estimated at 1 million people) were electric and brought a lot of energy to runners.

Abingdon, MD (November 5-7)

Stayed at an amazing campground right on the water. Bush River is just northeast of Baltimore. It was warm (70's) both days and very relaxing.
